Hey I’m Kayla

Couples Counseling Intensive in summerville south carolina with Kayla Stewart who is a black therapist providing marriage counseling, affair recovery and couples therapy services

I offer intensive couples therapy experiences in my Summerville office and virtually to anyone in South Carolina.

What is a couples therapy intensive?

Intensive are often referred to “ couples therapy intensives” and “marathon therapy,” in the therapy field. A Couples Therapy Intensive is an accelerated form of therapy to help you reach your therapy goals quicker. In another words, instead of 50-minute weekly sessions, we meet for a whole day (or two) to work through years of issues.

Who should book an intensive?

  • Couples with a Busy Work Schedule: Couples who have irregular work schedule and travel often. An intensive can be scheduled when you’ll know you’ll be home.

  • Couples on the Brink of Divorce: an intensive allows more time to process and heal old wounds.

  • Recent Discovery of an Affair: Affairs can feel like a relationship crisis. An intensive means more time to help stabilize the initial impact of an affair.

Intensives provides uninterrupted time for you and I to work on your relationship goals

Intensive Options

One Day “Clarity” Intensive - $1120

Typically, 9:00 am-3:30pm

You want clarity on why your discussions lead to arguments and misunderstanding. You want a therapist to give feedback on what is going wrong and how to communicate better.

What you can expect:

  • Map out the conflict-cycle you and your partner get caught in and how each of you respond when you feel disconnected.

  • I’ll provide feedback on how to get more of what you want in your relationship.

  • A full day means time for deeper exploration and practicing skills.

  • You’ll be given resources and tools to use after your intensive.

Two-Day “Rebuild” Intensive- $2240

Day one: 9a-3:30pm | Day two: 9a-3:30pm**

You feel like your relationship is at a crossroads. Maybe an affair has shattered trust or there is a particular issue that keeps getting in the way.

This intensive is a good fit for couples who want to rebuild trust, on the brink of divorce, or need additional support on a particular issue such as parenting.

What you can expect:

  • You’ll get the experience of Day One, in addition-

  • We will go deeper into repairing trust

  • We can work on other areas of your relationship such as sex, parenting, grief, etc.

  • You’ll be given resources and tools to use after your intensive.

**Please note: You can attend Day One and Day Two back-to-back or schedule them within a 4-week period.

What should I expect in the Intensive?

Below is an example to help you envision what your intensive experience may be like:

DAY ONE : 9am-3:30pm (includes two 10-minute breaks and 1.5hr lunch break)

MORNING: 9:00am-12 pm (includes a 10-minute break)

  • We talk about how you want your relationship to be different. I’ll be gathering information on “conflict-dance” and what “moves” each of you make.

  • I’ll be thinking about how I can help you get out of this conflict dance and into a relationship where you feel more understood and connected to your partner.

LUNCH BREAK: 12pm-1:30pm

  • This is a time to stretch your legs, nourish your body with a meal so you can come back feeling prepared for the second half of the day.

  • In the meantime, I am away in my office, recharging and creating a tailored plan for the second half of the day.

AFTERNOON: 1:30pm -3:30pm includes a bathroom/stretch break

  • This is the feedback and intervention part of our day.

  • We may spend the next two hours diving deep into a particular issue so you both come out feeling more understood and connected.

DAY TWO: 9am-3:30pm (includes two 10-minute breaks and 1.5hr lunch break)

  • We continue working on you communicating your needs and unlearning unhealthy communication habits such as defensiveness, criticism, and shutting down.

  • I am actively giving feedback on how you are doing. I am offering lots of compassion and accountability for you to be the best version of yourselves.

  • We co-create a plan on what skills you’ll continue to work on. We create a post-intensive Maintenace plan.

I am interested but have a few more questions about couples intensives

    • From my experience I see partners are able to achieve their goals faster than 50/60-minute sessions.

    • Other couples have a lot to share with me, so they really value the extra time.

    • Couples report a significant decrease in their arguments after participating in an intensive.

    • If there is untreated mental illness such as bipolar disorder, OCD, psychosis, major depression and/or anxiety disorder that is impacting daily functioning. There are alternative therapy approaches and treatment that may be more beneficial.

  • Many clients want to continue working with me to sustain the progress they made in their intensive. We will either: (1) schedule follow up sessions based off of your individual needs or (2) I will refer you to other providers for follow up care or (3) you will continue with your other therapist if you already have one. My goal is to get you to a place where you feel more confident and connected in your relationship.

  • The cost of intensives has to be paid in full prior to services being rendered. However, I may be able to offer some alternatives such as breaking up the entire intensive cost into 4-payments.

Send me a message and let’s see what I can do!

If an intensive still feels out of reach financially- I offer more traditional therapy sessions. Click here for the latest pricing information

  • Yes, most of my experience is working with same-sex couples and couples with at least one partner openly identifying as a trans person. I am as a cis-gendered person in a heterosexual relationship. but it’s my deep morale and spiritual belief that all people are deserving of love and care.
